Aphrodite's Love Life

*Aphrodite was married to Hephaestus. He was said to not be a very attractive man. It is said that her father Zeus made her marry him because she was so beautiful and attracted all sorts of men to her, he wanted to make sure she was taken and that all the other men did not try to have her.

*Since Aphrodite could not see past the superficial things about her husband, she was drawn to another man, her favorite lover was Ares, The God of War. The relationship between Aphrodite and Ares is symbolic of the destruction between men and woman. This was also the first affair.

*The affair between Aphrodite and Ares caused tension amongst the Gods. It is told that once, when the two lovers slept too late, Helios, the sun, observed them and told Hephaestus, who plotted a trap out of anger. He positioned a bronze net upon her bed and caught the two in a naked embrace for all to see.

*This affair resulted in the eventual birth of three children: Harmony, Fear and Terror. Harmony was the oldest daughter of Mars and Venus, while Fear and Terror, the younger boys, followed after their father's footsteps and had a passion for battle. While Aphrodite bore several children by different fathers, she and Hephaestus never had any children of their own

*Aphrodite represents love, sex, and the attraction that binds people together.

  1. I like the artwork you choose for your blog. The picture you choose really depicts the story and shows the conflict in tension in such a way that it bring the story to life.

  3. This actually makes sense as to why this was considered the first affair. Along with why any one in an arranged marriage may cheat. If the woman or man is promised to someone they aren't attracted to it doesn't seem very surprising that they rather be with someone they are attracted to. I find it interesting that in many myths gods or goddesses get a curse put on them for doing wrong and unless not talked about above neither Aphrodite or Ares was really cursed or had something bad happen to them.

  4. I think it was very interesting that this was the first affair. I also think it is interesting that it was brought on by Aphrodite, instead of Ares.
