Aphrodite's Love Life

*Aphrodite was married to Hephaestus. He was said to not be a very attractive man. It is said that her father Zeus made her marry him because she was so beautiful and attracted all sorts of men to her, he wanted to make sure she was taken and that all the other men did not try to have her.

*Since Aphrodite could not see past the superficial things about her husband, she was drawn to another man, her favorite lover was Ares, The God of War. The relationship between Aphrodite and Ares is symbolic of the destruction between men and woman. This was also the first affair.

*The affair between Aphrodite and Ares caused tension amongst the Gods. It is told that once, when the two lovers slept too late, Helios, the sun, observed them and told Hephaestus, who plotted a trap out of anger. He positioned a bronze net upon her bed and caught the two in a naked embrace for all to see.

*This affair resulted in the eventual birth of three children: Harmony, Fear and Terror. Harmony was the oldest daughter of Mars and Venus, while Fear and Terror, the younger boys, followed after their father's footsteps and had a passion for battle. While Aphrodite bore several children by different fathers, she and Hephaestus never had any children of their own

*Aphrodite represents love, sex, and the attraction that binds people together.

There are two different stories as to how this beauty came to be. The first is that her father is Zeus, King of all the Gods and her mother is Dione, an early earth/mother Goddess. This possibily seems pretty likely seeing of how perfect and beautiful she is, it would only seem fitting that these two would be her parents.
The second story, and the more common story is that Aphrodite came to be born from the foam in the sea when a body part of Uranus were thrown into the sea by his son Kronos.

Welcome to my page!

Hey everyone!
Thanks for visiting my page. I created this blog to research and talk about one of my absolute favorite mythic character in Greek mythology; Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love. Every since I first studied Greek Mythology back in Junior High School I have always loved learning about Aphrodite. To me she is a very strong, sexy woman who knows what she wants, and knows how to get it. She is the ultimate symbol of beauty, love or lust whatever you want to call it, fertility; everything you need to be a strong woman. I will be doing research, adding some pictures, and responding to any comments and feedback you guys may have for me.
Thanks for stopping in and checking out my blog. I hope you guys enjoy learning about Aphrodite as much as I have.
